Exoplaneta
Lena Szankay
The images in Exoplaneta take a subjective approach, from a Latin American perspective, to a fragment of the history of a divided city, the scene of geopolitical struggles and conquests of various kinds. The author is a witness to the political, social and cultural changes of an era and the transition to Berlin’s new status as a major capital city. However, her images reveal that the counterculture – both in Berlin and in Szankay’s earlier experiences in Buenos Aires – was characterised by intense artistic production as a bastion of resistance. This new compilation from the artist’s archive brings the viewer closer to a life under construction and a photographer in progress, who identifies otherness with the strangeness, fascination and perplexity inherent in the migratory experience.
