Carlos Caamaño

Lives and works between Lima and London.

Graduated from Audiovisual Communication at the Peruvian Institute of Advertising. He studied Cultural Management at the Lima Art Museum and attended curatorial workshops at the Torcuato di Tella University in Buenos Aires. He recently completed a MA in Media and Culture at Goldsmiths, University of London.

Between 2011 and 2014, he was the Head of Visual Arts at the Alliance Française in Lima.

In Peru, he has curated exhibitions for major cultural institutions such as Alliance Française, Peruvian North American Cultural Institute, British Cultural Centre, Museum of Contemporary Art, Lima Photography Biennial, HAY Festival, British Embassy in Lima; and the British Government’s Regional Headquarters for Latin America, the Caribbean and Overseas Territories; among others.

He has also been a guest curator for the Deutsche Bank Gallery and the Cervantes Institute, both in New York City. He is currently curating the Peruvian Pavilion at the London Design Biennale.

Since 2010 he has been the director of Carlos Caamaño Espacio Fotográfico, an independent initiative that brings together a group of renowned Latin American photographers with the main objective of promoting photographic art on an international level. The platform has an active international circulation and has presented projects in Buenos Aires, Mexico City, Basel, Berlin, New York, Barcelona and London.

Alongside his curatorial work, Carlos writes texts for photography exhibitions and has published articles in specialist magazines. He is regularly invited to sit on juries and give lectures at renowned art institutions.
